Petra F. Acosta went to heaven on June 13, 2024.

Petra was born on September 20, 1942, to Pedro Franco and Paula Reyes in Pecos, Texas.

The viewing for Petra F. Acosta will be held on Thursday, June 20, from 12-7 p.m. at Heritage Funeral Home of the Big Bend 301 N. Main Street Fort Stockton, with Rosary held at 7 p.m. Funeral service will be held June 21, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church 401 S. Main Street Fort Stockton, at 10 a.m. with Burial to follow.

Acosta’s family moved to Fort Stockton when she was a child. She attended Fort Stockton schools. At the age of 17, she met the love of her life, Ben F. Acosta, and they were married on his birthday, June 13, 1958.

They were blessed with three sons: Antonio, Adan, and Armando.

Petra was a wonderful cook who worked for over 40 years as a professional cook. For 20 years, she fondly fed the kiddos at Fort Stockton ISD and for 20 years at Fort Stockton Nursing Center before her retirement. Even as she got older, she was determined to go to work to feed her vejitos. Petra showed her love for people through her cooking.

Petra is preceded in death by her father, Pedro Franco, mother Paula Franco, husband Ben F. Acosta, son Antonio Acosta; her brother Crispin (Anita) Franco, sisters Teresa (Lencho) Olivas and Maggie Jackson; and sister-in-laws Francis (Secudino) Urias and Mickey (Joe) Carrasco.

She is survived by her long-time companion, Adan Urias, and her sons, Adan (Cary) Acosta and Armando (Melissa) Acosta. Grandchildren Judidia Acosta, Ausden (Kathy) Acosta, Jose Antonio Acosta, D’Angelo Moreno, D’Ana Moreno, Marcelina (Erik) Acosta, Miranda (RJ) Bernal, Harrison (Mary) Acosta, and Benjamin (Celeste) Acosta. Great grandchildren Landon, Kolton, Collins, Elian, Elena, Jaden, Anthony, Adalynn, and Oliver. Sisterin- law Amy (Joe) Herrera and numerous nieces and nephews.
