Beatriz Cardenas Ponce, 85, who loved to be called “Miama” passed away peacefully in her home in Fort Stockton, surrounded by her loving family on Sunday, Aug. 6, 2023.

Beatriz was born in Colonia Esperanza, Chihuahua Mexico on Aug. 2, 1938, to Vicente Cardenas and Mercedes Bolanos.

Beatriz married the love of her life, Filemon Ponce on Nov. 22, 1956, in Ojinaga, Chihuahua, Mexico. Beatriz was mother to five children: Martha P Reyes, Betty Carrasco, Filemon Ponce Jr., Nikki Ponce and Fernando Ponce. She raised her children with love in Fort Stockton, along with her husband Filemon Ponce Sr. Beatriz was a devoted housewife who enjoyed cooking. Everyone enjoyed eating her food, especially her delicious tamales and asado. She was a woman of great faith who loved the Lord. She attended Templo Los Olivos Assembly of God where she was an active member.

She is survived by her children Betty (Joe) Carrasco, Filemon Ponce Jr., Nikki Ponce, and Fernando Ponce, all of Fort Stockton. Aside from her children she is survived by two sisters, Herlinda Cazares and Aurora (Armando) Maese both of El Paso, Texas; 12 grandchildren; 25 great grandchildren, and four great-great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.

Beatriz was in preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Reverend Filemon Acuna Ponce (“Miapa”); her parents, Vicente and Mercedes Cardenas; daughter, Martha Ponce Reyes; grandsons Eli Ponce and Armando Reyes Jr.; sister Sebastiana Reyes; brothers Leobardo Cardenas, Lazaro Reyes, Francisco “Kiko” Reyes and Agapito Reyes.

Celebration of Life Service will be Saturday, Aug. 12, 2023, at 10 a.m. at Templo Los Olivos, with Pastor Joe Carrasco officiating. Burial will follow at East Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Corey S Denzy, Pastor Joe Carrasco, Luis Gonzalez, Isaiah Ponce, Michael Ponce, and Eduardo Maese.

Honorary pallbearers will be Christian Gonzalez, Juan Velasquez Jr., Sebastian Luca Gonzalez and Favian Liam Gonzalez.
