The Fort Stockton Film Society is showing the classic Stanley Kubrick dark comedy, Dr. Strangelove, on Saturday, Feb. 25 at 7:00 p.m. As an added feature, there will be a classic Warner Brothers cartoon screened just before the main feature.

Dr. Strangelove stars Peter Sellers playing three roles as well as George C. Scott and parttime Pecos County resident Slim Pickens in a satire about an unhinged Air Force general who orders a preemptive nuclear strike on the Russians.

Slim Pickens was a regular with Barbee’s guide service during the ‘60s and ‘70s, and came out here for mule deer hunts as well as buying several custom knives from Barbee.

Dr. Strangelove was released in 1964, at the height of the Cold War but has renewed relevance today with the war in Ukraine and tensions with China.

The screening will start at 7:00 p.m., with doors opening at 6:30 p.m.

Admission is free, courtesy of McKenzie Land and Livestock, who are hosting their 17th annual Bull Sale on March 14, but donations are gladly accepted.

Dr. Strangelove will be shown at the Nelson Street Theatre, located at 102 S. Nelson St. in downtown Fort Stockton.
