Laura McKenzie and Penny Smith, two of Fort Stockton Community Theatre’s leading ladies, were recognized for their acting ability by being named to the All-Star Cast at TexFEST competition held in Kerrville Feb. 17-19.

Fort Stockton Community Theatre’s play “Rude Awakenings,” written by British playwright Nicolas Ridley, was performed on Feb. 18.

The ladies’ honors were announced Saturday evening at the Awards Ceremony.

FSCT was also recognized for having the most people registered for the event and for having traveled the most cumulative miles to attend the festival.

Kathy Montanez and Pam Palileo also starred in the production. The stage crew was made up of Emma Morales, Stage Manager; Randall Montanez and Andy Smith, who moved and struck the set; J.B. Gallegos ran lights and Elijah Nix ran sound. Alice Duerksen directed the play.

Alice Duerksen has just been elected for a four-year term to the board of directors to help represent Quad I (the West Texas area). Mrs. Duerksen will work on the finance committee, the Awards Committee, and the Quad Liaison Committee.

Duerksen explained she was most excited about working on the quad committee because she wants to encourage all theatres from high school to college and university to community theatres in all of West Texas to join TNT and reap the benefits that membership can provide.

There is also a youth conference in June in Bastrop that Duerksen encourages young people in the community, who are interested in theatre, to attend.

“This is the second TEXFest State Festival that FSCT has participated in. Fort Stockton performers have represented their community well. Fort Stockton Community Theatre would not exist or be able to be active without the support of the community members. Thanks, Fort Stockton,” Duerksen said.
