The staff at Midland College Williams Regional Technical Training Center got together to honor the life of former employee Ida Casias.
The group, along with Casias' family and friends, met at the college on Friday, Oct. 11 to dedicate a shadow box filled with her old belongings.
Casias worked in financial aid and touched the lives of everyone she encountered.
“We miss her dearly still,” said Director Matt Tarpley.
Casias passed away in October 2018, and coworkers, friends and former students remembered her legacy.
“She was an amazing person, I owe that degree to her,” said former student Yasmin Montoya.
In addition to the shadow box that will hang by the resource lab, they also created the “Ida Casias Graduation Reception” at the Midland main campus for Fort Stockton students to be welcomed.
Several donors have also given in Casias' name for the scholar dollars to help with the GED program that Casias was passionate about.
“She was the perfect teacher and she loved doing it,” said former colleague Sondra Bynum. “The last thought I will have in this world is remembering Ida.”
