...DANGEROUS WIND CHILLS AND BITTERLY COLD TEMPERATURES EXPECTED

EARLY NEXT WEEK...

A strong, Arctic cold front will arrive Sunday morning with strong

northerly winds and falling temperatures behind it. Temperatures

will quickly fall below freezing Sunday evening with overnight

lows Monday morning near record cold levels in the teens and 20's.

Wind chill values will be as low as zero degrees across much of

the Permian Basin Monday Morning! Temperatures will barely recover

above freezing before plummeting back into the teens and 20's

Tuesday morning.

Take the necessary precautions if you plan to be outside during

an extended period during this cold snap, especially Monday

morning. Wear layers of loose-fitting, lightweight, warm clothing.

Also, wear a hat as much of your body heat is lost from your

head.

Protect sensitive water pipes and ensure your heating system is

in good working order. Check on the elderly and ensure that

outdoor animals not suited for this prolonged cold have an

appropriate shelter with unfrozen water. Early season gardens and

cold sensitive vegetation may need to be covered or brought

inside. Check back often through the weekend as we update the

forecast for this Arctic outbreak.
