Services for William Thomas Shanklin, Jr., 91, of Tyler, were scheduled for Friday, Aug. 25, 2017, at 2 p.m., with visitation at 1 p.m. prior to the service in the chapel of Lloyd James Funeral Home with Ron Shultz and Travis Hunt officiating. Burial followed at the Williams Cemetery.
Shanklin passed away on Aug. 22, 2017, in Tyler, at Hospice of East Texas Homeplace. He was born on Jan. 5, 1926 in Gonzales, TX, to the late William T. and Frieda Richter Shanklin. Shanklin had many hobbies, including hunting, fishing, wood working, playing 42, watching westerns, following his favorite teams the Longhorns, Rangers, and Cowboys, and eating strawberry ice cream.
In addition to his parents, Shanklin was preceded in death by his first wife, Ima Shanklin; his daughter, Frances Shanklin; and his seven siblings.
Shanklin is survived by his wife, Jean; his daughters, Barbara Smith of Tyler, Billie Rich of Austin, and Karen Beasley of Tyler; her sons, Mark Walker of Killeen, Mike Walker of Arlington, and her daughter, Regina McCoy of Tyler; 15 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Billy Smith, Steven Smith, Tim Beasley, David Cassady, Rodney Lamb, and Christian Box.
Honorary Pallbearers were Vern Broadus, Troy Lincecum, Bill Nowell, Bobby Crone, and James Farmer.
