Where ya headed?: Travelers of FS

Gi Gi of Las Vegas rolled in to Fort Stockton at 3 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 16. Parking her U-Haul at the Flying J Travel Center, she decided to spend the entire day here in town.

“I’m headed to Hollywood Beach in Florida. My mother passed away in Vegas and I’m an only child, so I figured it was time for me to leave. I’ve got some nieces who live in Florida, so it just made sense,” said GiGi.

Reflecting on the recent passing of her mother, she said, “Don’t worry, my mom wasn’t involved in that Vegas shooting. You see, shootings happen all the time Vegas. We just happened to witness a really big one.”

While relaxing in the back of her U-Haul, she continued, “I found a litter of kittens in a nearby dusty town; I already forgot the name of that town (laughs). Anyway, when I got here I contacted Animal Control and they came and took the kittens off my hands. The Fort Stockton Animal Control was very helpful. Oh, and on top of traveling the kittens, I’ve got my three dogs on the road with me. Their names are Fuzz, Jessabelle and Diego.”

Other than receiving help from Animal Control, Gi Gi said a Flying J employee helped her contact the Pecos County Memorial Hospital for a refill on her oxygen tanks.

“The people are very nice and the gas is cheaper, so I’m going to stay the night here. Besides, that Martha Stewart and Snoop Dogg TV show comes on tonight – I gotta watch it. I’m not gonna miss out on Martha and Snoop,” she said with a grin.

Gi Gi shared her appreciation for the Oct. 12 issue of The Pioneer being printed in pink, and said, “The pink newspaper is cool. I knew right away it was for Breast Cancer Awareness. I’ve got Breast Cancer, but I’m not taking any chemo and I’m not dying without my breasts. Nope. They aren’t cutting mine off. I’m right with God, so I have nothing to worry about. I’m just going to hang out here in Fort Stockton and wait for Martha and Snoop to come on. Life is good.”
