A Washington state man was killed Oct. 12 in a two-vehicle crash on Highway 285 about 8 miles north of Fort Stockton.
According to a press release from the Texas Department of Public Safety, Vernon L. Roberts, 69, of Everett, Wash., was driving a 2020 Kenworth and towing a semi-trailer heading south on Highway 285 when his truck was sideswiped by a 2017 Chevy Suburban traveling northbound that and crossed into the southbound lane.
The Kenworth caught fire, while the Suburban rolled.
Roberts was pronounced dead at the scene by Justice of the Peace Ruben Salinas.
The driver of the Suburban, Cristian B. Hinojos, 21, of Barstow, Texas, was not injured.
The crash occurred at 11 a.m. Conditions were listed as clear and dry.
