Public display of the American flag in historic places is important.
Beyond that it is a wonderful privilege that comes with responsibilities- one of them is to know and follow the protocol which is a part of holding a leadership position at such a site.
For someone given this responsibility, to not know or to ignore such protocol is not acceptable. Our flag is not to be handled in public or historic places by groundskeepers or gift shop clerks with no prior training. It is much more important than that, especially in places that veterans visit often and on days that are so significant to them like Memorial Day, Veterans Day, etc.
For those in charge of such places, the flag protocol is available in the Flag Etiquette manual or www.halfstaff.com.
This is an ongoing problem of several years that has been repeatedly addressed with no results. Attention to this would be appreciated.
