One more week of the playoffs and the Prowlers are still undefeated as they swept Fabens in two games last Thursday and Friday. In game one of the series, the Prowlers may have trailed 0-1 after the first inning, but the second inning saw Marly Natividad hit a double that would score two runs and give the Prowlers the lead for good. In the third inning, the Prowlers added two more runs, followed by one run in the fifth inning. In the sixth inning, Heliana Bueno had a triple, followed by a home run by Amber Corral as they added three runs for their big inning of the night.
The Prowlers came in strong in the seventh inning to add two runs and take the 10-1 victory. The Prowlers recorded 16 hits and no errors that day, with Meghan Bueno going all seven innings on the mound. Bueno gave up only one run on five hits while walking five and striking out four. At the plate, the Prowlers were led by Rebecca Rodriguez with three hits, while Mary Villarreal, Kobi Byrd, Amber Corral, Heliana Bueno, and Marly Natividad each had two hits. Natividad, Corral, and Villarreal each recorded two RBIs.
The Prowlers returned to the diamond Friday afternoon to take a 16-6 victory in just six innings. The Prowlers again trailed after one inning of play, as they scored two runs in the first while Fabens added three. The Prowlers added three runs in the second inning, while Fabens added three runs to tie the score at five runs each. The Prowlers then added one run in the third, followed by four runs in the fourth that came from a single by Crishna Villarreal, a single by Desiree Blanco, and a double by Mary Villarreal.
The Prowlers then gained two runs in the fifth and four runs in the sixth while holding Fabens to only one run in the sixth inning to take the victory. On the mound, it was again Meghan Bueno going the distance, giving up six runs on nine hits while committing six errors, walking four, and striking out five. At the plate, it was Amber Corral, Crishna Villarreal, Desiree Blanco, and Mary Villarreal each recording three hits, while Crishna Villarreal led the Prowlers with six RBIs.
The Prowlers two game victory in the Regional Quarterfinals advances them to Regional Semifinals this weekend, where they will face Vernon starting with game one on Thursday, May 18 at 6 p.m. at Lubbock Cooper High School in Lubbock. Game two is set for Friday, May 19 at 6 p.m. with game three to be played Saturday, May 20 at 1 p.m., if needed. Vernon finished district play 6-2 record with an overall 15-4 record. Vernon then defeated Big Spring, Mineral Wells, and Brownwood in playoff action. After last weeks victory the Prowlers are now ranked 17th in the state with a 15-4 record on the season.
