Prowlers playoff seeding riding on today's game vs. Monahans

After winning its first three 4A-District 2 game, the Fort Stockton High School softball team not only finds itself out of the district championship chase, but facing a possible fourth-pace finish.

The Prowlers (17-9) dropped an 8-3 decision Tuesday, April 9 on the road in Andrews. The loss dropped the Prowlers to 4-3 in district – in third place just one game ahead of Seminole (4-4) as they head into their Friday, April 12 Senior Night finale against Monahans.

At 4-3, the Prowlers trial Andrews (6-1) and Monahans (5-2). Pecos is last at 0-7.

A win over Monahans would throw second place into a tie-breaker (Monahans won the first meeting). A loss would created a tie-breaker for third with Seminole, which the Prowlers also split the district series.

Finishing fourth would match the Prowlers against a No. 1 seed in the playoffs. Finishing second would match the Prowlers against a No. 3 seed.

Against Andrews º which the Prowlers beat 4-3 on March 22 – the Mustangs posted five runs in the fourth inning to break open a 3-2 game.

It was quite a departure from the 18-8 win the Prowlers posted over Pecos on Friday, April 5. The team has now lost three of its last four games.
