Prowlers head to playoffs after 64-54 win over Monahans


The Fort Stockton Prowlers outscored Monahans 24-9 in the 4th period to post a 64-54 win and lock up third place in district in their Senior Night game Tuesday, Feb. 5 at the SEC.

The Prowlers (3-5, 12-18) will be the No. 3 seed from 4A-District 2. Pecos (2-6) will be No. 4 and Monahans (1-7) was eliminated with the loss.

The Prowlers trailed by as many as 8 in the 3rd period and went into the fourth down 45-40.

In a physical game, the Prowlers used a pressuring defense to force turnovers and steals, superior defensive rebounding and simply outran the Loboes down the stretch.

The Prowlers jumped out to a 6-0 lead to open the game. Monahans rallied, but the Prowlers were able to hold on for a 15-13 win entering the second period.

Monahans used a trio of three-pointers and a good transition game in the second period to build a 31-29 lead going into the half.

Monahans extended to lead in the third, leading by as many as eight before a late surge pulled the Prowler within five at 45-40.
