Police make arrest in child abuse case


According to the Fort Stockton Police Department:

Mario Palacios Jr - Injury to a Child, 1st Degree Felony

FSPD Criminal Investigations has arrested Mario Palacios Jr in connection with the Child Abuse case reported Monday. Mr. Palacios is the boyfriend of the victim’s mother. The child victim is still under intensive care, in critical condition and is on life support. The FSPD Criminal Investigation Team, the 83rd DA’s Office and Texas Rangers are continuing to investigate the circumstances. We will provide additional details as they may become available.

All suspects are innocent until proven guilty.


Lubbock Online reported to day that the child remains in critical condition at a hospital in Lubbock.


The arrest follows an investigation started Saturday, Nov. 17. The initial report was:

Police investigate case of injured 3-year-old boy

Fort Stockton Police are investigating the suspected beating of a 3-year-old boy found Saturday, Nov. 17.

Police were called to Pecos County Memorial Hospital around 10 a.m. Saturday. According to Chief of Police Ryan Skelton, the child had been brought to the hospital after being found at the Valley Creek Apartments, 2038 FM 1053 in Fort Stockton.

When officers arrived at the hospital, officers learned that the 3-year-old was being actively treated for serious injuries to his head and body.

After being stabilized at PCMH, the child was air-lifted to Covenant Children’s Hospital in Lubbock. The child is listed in critical condition.

The police department’s Criminal Investigation team is working with 83rd District Attorney’s Office on the investigation.

A crime scene has been processed the investigation is ongoing. The Texas Rangers are assisting due to the locations of those being interviewed.

When asked about the child’s family, Skelton said, “That’s the part that’s being investigated. As the investigation proceeds, we will release more details.”
