Friends, colleagues and community members attended a “Put a fork in him, he’s done” retirement party for Fort Stockton Insurance Agency owner Phil Chamberlain April 26.

Chamberlain has owned the agency for 20 years after buying it from Jay Tom Holstein in 1998. He has worked at the agency since 1994.

“I’m 66 and I’ve been working for 50 years, so its time to have a little ‘me time,’” said Chamberlain. “I would like to travel and, being a journalist, there are some I’d like to write.”

Chamberlain will be handing the reigns over to Pam Palileo, who has purchased the agency. Both Chamberlain and Palileo are former publishers of the Fort Stockton Pioneer – although both cautioned that never was a prerequisite for employment.

The jump from the newspaper world to the insurance world just happened, according to Chamberlain.

“I’m not sure why I went into insurance,” he said. “I’m a people person. I guess that it was the opportunity to help people, which I think is important.”

Chamberlain is a Fort Stockton native who graduated from Fort Stockton High School in 1969.
