Two new COVID-19 fatalities were reported for Pecos County this week as the number of positive and active cases across the county continue to increase.

The county currently is reporting 29 active cases out of 204 positive cases in the county with five total deaths, as of Aug. 26. A total number of 1,742 individuals have been tested and 170 have recovered in the county.

The newest cases include a 63-year-old female who was hospitalized at University Medical Center Lubbock and was a resident of Focused Care, and a 54-year-old male who was hospitalized at Medical Center Hospital.

Pecos County Memorial Hospital CEO Betsy Briscoe gave an update to the Commissioners’ Court on Monday about the hospital’s testing capabilities.

PCMH has received a limited supply of rapid tests and will be distributing them by priority, said Briscoe. So far, the hospital has administered a total of 1244 in-house tests, 35 of which are rapid tests. There are 11 pending tests from PCMH and the average number of tests a day is three to four.

Mandates are still in place requiring all Pecos County residents to wear a mask while out in public and limiting all gatherings to 10 people or less.
