The Fort Stockton High School girls basketball team rallied from 10 points down in the fourth period to defeat visiting Pecos, 51-45 Tuesday, Jan. 29.
It was a pivotal win for the Prowlers (2-4, 11-17) who not only avenged an earlier lost this month at Pecos, but also kept themselves in the hunt for a playoff spot.
Pecos and Fort Stockton are now tied with 2-4 district marks. The teams each have one win against one another (Pecos won 46-45 on Jan. 11). Seminole is unbeaten at 6-0 and Andrews is 5-1.
The Prowlers have already faced Seminole twice, but both Pecos and Andrews still have games against Seminole.
Against Pecos, the Prowlers found themselves in a game of runs.
In the first half, the Prowlers built a lead on a 11-2 run, only to see Pecos going into the half on a 15-0 run and a 31-21 lead.
In the third, the Prowlers could get no closer than eight and went into the final fame down 10, 41-31.
The Panthers scored the first 9 points of the fourth to pull within 41-40. Pecos finally scored with 5:24 left, only to see the Prowlers outscore them 11-2 downtime stretch.
The Prowlers travel to Andrews on Friday before closing out district play at home against Monahans.
