The longstanding McDonald’s at 1500 N. US Hwy 285 was closed and demolished late September 2017. In its place, a brand-new location was built closer to the Interstate and opened to the public Wednesday, Nov. 15 at 6 a.m.
The new location now features a contemporary design, a more spacious parking lot, two-lane drive-through with digital menu screens, touch screen ordering kiosks, touch screen children’s games, indoor Play Place, sleek dining spaces, and more.
Owner William Story stayed in town to help the Fort Stockton staff become familiar with the new
restaurant, and shared a few words on the opening.
“This particular McDonald’s turned out great. I can’t take full credit for any of this. None of this would be possible without the help of my wife, Monika. She handles a lot of the bookkeeping and does so much work behind the scenes. She designed the entire lobby of this new location; the color schemes and everything,” said Story.
Continuing, he added, “She even hired someone locally to create and install a plasma cut out of an oil rig, and it says Fort Stockton beneath it.”
Story’s son, William Story, Jr., works for one of his father’s McDonald’s in El Paso, and tagged along to work shifts during the business’ first-week rush.
“I’ve been here four days helping out. I’m following my dad’s footsteps. I eventually want to work my way up to owner and take over for him,” said William, Jr.
With digital flat screens hung from wall-to-wall, a lot of the former regulars have taken notice and commented on the sleek new version of their go-to meeting spot.
“Me and my group have been coming to McDonald’s every morning for a long time. They even had a picture of us on the wall at the old McDonald’s,” said Pete Fierro.
“The interior is a lot nicer than the old one. There’s more parking too. It’s very up-to-date here now. You can place your order and pay on one of those touch-screen menus.
It’s great. One thing I’ve really noticed is that the service is very good here. I have no complaints about the service. You always see an employee wiping down a table or helping out a customer,” said Fierro with a cup of coffee in hand.
The new McDonald’s is open from 5:45 a.m. to 11 p.m. daily. If you haven’t seen it yet, stop by for one of their seasonal peppermint mochas or their new caramel macchiato.
