JV Tennis looks forward to spring season

Members of the Panther tennis team traveled to Midland College last Friday to compete in the Midland Christian Fall JV Tournament and came away with a third place team finish out of seven teams. Andrews was first, followed by Midland High JV, then the Panthers.

Leading the way was sophomore Maira Sanchez, who won the girls' singles championship and defeated a girl from Midland High, along with three girls from Andrews.

“Sanchez had a great fall and what a good way to finish,” Coach Phillip Dodd stated. "She will be in the top six on Varsity next year when we lose two seniors."

Also in girls' singles, Malorie Crenshaw lost first round to Andrews but came back and won three matches to win the consolation championship 8 – 6 over a Midland High player.

In girls' doubles, freshmen duo of Audrey Gonzales and Ashlee Jasso finished third after falling to Andrews in the semifinals, but defeated Seminole for third place.

“They have been getting better every week,” JV Coach Karen Reed said. "They will be competing for a Varsity spot next year."

In boys' doubles Rueben Hurtado and Colton King had a rough start, losing to Midland Lee; however, they came back to win three matches to win the consolation side of the draw.

Others playing were Kylie Durante, Stepanie Galindo, Dominic Rosas, and Alex Montoya.

JV and Varsity will be in off-season until school resumes from the holidays.
