James “Jake” E. Laurence


Services for James “Jake” E. Laurence, will be held at 10 a.m., Monday, April 22, 2019 in the Stewart Family Funeral Home Chapel, with a private family interment at Rose Lawn Cemetery. Mr. Laurence was born April 2, 1927 in Toro, Louisiana to James E. and Eula Annie Calloway Laurence and he passed away Wednesday, April 17, 2019 in Lockhart, Texas.

Jake grew up in New London where he met and married the love of his life, Mary Louise VanHaverbeke. They lived in Fort Stockton for many years where Jake was a successful businessman and served on the City Council. Upon his retirement, they moved to Tyler in 2002.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Mary Lou and his parents.

He is survived by his daughter, Margaret Ruckriegel of Celina; sons, James Michael Laurence and wife Benita of Fort Stockton, and Dr. Charles Laurence and wife Cheryl of Lockhart, who lovingly cared for Jake in his final years; as well as a brother, Joe Howard Laurence and wife Rose of Deridder; four grandchildren, and several great-grandchildren.
