The Fort Stockton High School Panther Chorale will be flying to New York City on Wednesday, June 21. The choir will sing at Carnegie Hall during their trip, a first for any choir in Fort Stockton. Their final practice was Monday, June 19, where they had a trip meeting and put the final touches on each song for the concert.
Choir Director Steve Gennette, who is retiring, said he felt this was a great way to end his teaching career in FSISD.
25 students and six adults will be travelling to the Big Apple, where their itinerary will begin. Gennette stated the choir will be visiting the Statue of Liberty, Chinatown, and will attend a performance of The Phantom of the Opera on Broadway. The trip will culminate with a performance at Carnegie Hall. The students and chaperones will all fly back home on Sunday, June 25.
Gennette said that each student was required to raise $1,700 in order to take part this trip, and that all their hard work will pay off once they begin their journey.
