Fort Stockton wins 18u and 10u softbal titles in Midland tournament

Fort Stockton's 18u and 10 u All Star teams each won a championship Sunday at the USA Softball West Texas All Star tournament at Ulmer Park in Midland.

They took decidedly different paths to their respective titles.

The 18u team went a perfect 6-0 over two days of the tournament.

The 10u team lost its first two games of the tournament's pool play, before posting two wins to reach the bracket round. Fort Stockton defeated the Lubbock Monstars, 8-5, to emerge from the losers bracket, and face the undefeated Midland Freedom. Fort Stockton needed to beat Midland twice to claim the title.

Fort Stockton won the opening 19-18 in a game that went 6 extra innings.

In the winner-take-all finale, Fort Stockton got out a bases-load, one-out situation to preserve a 4-3 win.

In 12u, Fort Stockton lost to San Angelo Red 3-1 in the title game.

Fort Stockton did not advance in the 14u and 8u levels.
