The 2018 Pecos County High School football season opens Friday night will all three county schools at home.

• Fort Stockton, now playing in 4A-Division 2 District 1, opens against Kermit at 7:30 p.m. at Panther Stadium. Kermit defeated Fort Stockton, 17-15, in last year’s opener.
Kermit finished 6-5 last season and reached the bi-district final in 3A-Division 1. The team is coached by former Pecos coach Bubba Ross, who wasn’t hired until June. The team lost some key players, but have running back Keneon Baker, who average more than seven yards per carry last year.
Mike Peters enters his third season at the helm of the Panthers.
• Iraan hosts Crane at 7:30 p.m. The Cranes compete in 3A-Div. 2, while Iraan is in 2A-Div. 2. The team returns several key defensive starters from a 4-7 team that lost in the second round of the playoffs. Kobe Henderson will start at quarterback. He is 6-foot-2, 215-pounds and has good speed.
Corby Maurer makes his debut as head coach of the Braves.
• Buena Vista opens at home with a 7 p.m. game against West Texas Home School. The team finished 2-10 last season if the TAIAO Div. 2 standings.
The game marks the debut of Longhorns head coach Dale Pustejovsky.
