Former Deputy Tax Assessor Suarez indicted

Former Deputy Tax Assessor-Collector Hector Suarez has been indicted on one count of Theft of Property and eight counts of Tampering with a Government Record with the Intent to Defraud or Harm Another.

The Fort Stockton Pioneer previously released coverage on this event in Sept. of 2016, stating that many calls to public officials led to an investigation of the Pecos County Tax Office. The Pioneer found that Texas Ranger Robert Losoya confirmed that there was an ongoing investigation happening at the time, but that he could comment no further. Now, less than a year later, the investigation has yielded results.

From approximately Oct. 2, 2015 through July 15, 2016, Suarez collected $3,676.25 from M & J Trucking in Fort Stockton with intent to deprive the owner of the property. For this charge of Theft of Property, a third degree felony, Suarez's bond was set at $3,500.

Suarez also knowingly made a false entries in government records in the form of vehicle titles. The false entries consisted of the voiding of the original title transactions, the creation of fraudulent title transactions with false sales prices, and the failure to remit the original amounts of motor vehicle tax collected from the taxpayers for his personal use. For these charges, Suarez's bond was set at $7,500.

All counts of Tampering with a Government Record with the Intent to Defraud or Harm Another, a second degree felony, are as follows:

-Count one: Feb. 2, 2016 regarding a certificate of title application

-Count two: March 24, 2016 regarding a certificate of title application

-Count three: May 5, 2016 regarding a certificate of title application

-Count four: April 25, 2016 regarding a certificate of title application

-Count five: May 16, 2016 and May 23, 2016 regarding a certificate of title application

-Count six: June 30, 2016 and July 12, 2016 regarding a certificate of title application

-Count seven: July 15, 2016 regarding a certificate of title application

-Count eight: May 2, 2016 regarding a certificate of title application

The arraignment hearing in the 83rd District Court of Pecos County, TX for defendant Hector Suarez is set for July 12, 2017 at 9 a.m. at the Pecos County Judicial Building at 400 S. Nelson.
