UPDATE FROM TxDOT at 9:19 a.m.: "Rain washed out some of the slope in a different area (from last week's subsidence). We are erring on teh side of caution until repairs can be made,: said TxDOT Spokesman Gene Powell Jr.
UPDATE FROM TxDot at 9 a.m.: PECOS COUNTY: Rain runoff has again forced the closure of FM 1053 south of Imperial between FM 11 and FM 1450. The road will be closed indefinitely until damage assessments and repairs can be made. Motorists are asked to use FM 1450, Highway 18 and FM 11 as a detour around the closed section. Traffic going from I-20 to Fort Stockton can use Highway 18.
FM 1053 near FM 1450 is closed this morning (Friday, Sept. 21), according to Pioneer Advertising Sales Representative Luis Medina, who drove the road today.
This appears to be the same stretch of road that was closed a little more than a week ago due to subsidence under the roadway caused by rains.
Medina says traffic is being detoured through Grandfalls.
We are reaching out to TxDOT for Comment.
