A fatal crash on Saturday night left one local woman dead and a man arrested for manslaughter and driving while intoxicated.
According to Fort Stockton Police, a vehicle driven by Gonzalo De Santiago, 27, of Mercedes, Texas, T-boned a vehicle being driven by Shela Strother, 61, of Fort Stockton near the intersection of Dickinson Boulevard and Gillis Street.
Police Chief Robert Lujan said that crews immediately went into life saving measures, but Strother succumbed to her injuries at the hospital.
De Santiago refused to give a breathalyzer test and a warrant was obtained for a blood test.
He was arrested for suspicion of being intoxicated and manslaughter.
The results are pending on his blood test.
“It was really sad,” said Lujan.
