Dorothy Neuse Link of New Braunfels gained her angel wings on Saturday, November 9, 2019 at the age of 93. She was born on October 24, 1926 to Egon and Linda Neuse of New Braunfels, Texas. Dorothy married Arno Link, Jr. on June 22, 1949. They were married 53 years and were avid bowlers, card and domino players, and enjoyed dancing in their younger years.
Dorothy was a member of the Barbarossa Bowling Club and Friedens Church Women’s Guild. She was a long-time member of Friedens United Church of Christ. Dorothy’s first job was as a telephone operator with the New Braunfels Telephone Company, worked at local restaurants as a cook, and was employed for many years by Clear Springs Catering. In addition to cooking, Dorothy loved to sew and other sewing related handwork. Her favorite job was being an “Oma” (German for grandmother) to her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and their friends. Her cooking and baked goods were divine; she always had a sage German saying for the appropriate situation. She looked forward to her family gatherings, especially on the traditional Christmas Eve and birthday celebrations. She was a strong German woman and the matriarch of her family.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Arno, sister Loraine Wetz (Arnold) and sister-in-law Leonie Wiedner (Arno). She is survived by her son Steven Link (Charlene) of New Braunfels; daughter Janet Newton Groth (Walter) of Fort Stockton; daughter Kay Walker (Bill Braden) of Cuero; daughter, Patricia Lehmann (Erwin III) of Boerne; 10 grandchildren, including Amanda and Angela Newton; and 10 great-grandchildren; one niece, Sharon Wetz Schultz; and three nephews, Phillip Wetz, Andrew Wetz, and Dennis Weidner.
