According to Ty Edwards, General Manager of the Middle Pecos Groundwater Conservation District, the Comanche Springs at Rooney Park are flowing more than last year at a rate of 8- to 10-million gallons a day.
Edwards said that he is working on installing a telemetry system to start collecting flow rates, and he is aiming to have the system operational by next summer.
Meanwhile, the youth of the community has already taken advantage of the springs’ temporal flow this year.
Dominic Rosas and Chris Barron went as far as tossing a football to each other as Rosas stood inside the filled channels running through Rooney Park. The dried-up Comanche Springs are to be enjoyed while it lasts, before it vanishes for another long period of time.
