During their regular meeting on Tuesday, Feb. 13, the Fort Stockton City Council approved composing a letter of support for a proposed apartment complex.
Paul Holden of Zimmerman Properties presented the group’s plans for the apartment complex, called “Redwood Apartments”.
According to Holden, he had previously worked with the city on the Valley View and Southern View apartments years before. Holden stated he was once again requesting to put in an application for a Housing Tax Credit Community.
“There is a pent up demand for it all over west Texas,” Holden said. “Our properties here are full with waiting lists. Southern View is at 100 percent occupancy.”
The location for the property is at N. Sycamore St. and 12th St., which is directly across the road from Wal-Mart. Holden said the complex would include 48 units that looked similar to both the Southern View and Valley View properties.
“It would take about six months to get the first building and leasing office built,” said Holden. “In the next month, the rest of the buildings will be up. But we won’t hear about the tax credit application until the end of July, and we will probably break ground December-ish.”
Holden discussed with the council that in order to complete the application, Zimmerman Properties needed a resolution of support drafted by the city. He stated that the group would also need a small bit of funding from the city, amounting between $250 and $500, to meet application requirements.
The council approved the resolution of support following Holden’s presentation.
