Community members are invited to make Christmas cards for the nursing home residents who may not get visitors over the holidays.
“Its really just something nice we can do for them,” said organizer Rachel Day Nix.
This is the 8th annual event, and nix said she encourages everyone to make Christmas cards with a nice note inside.
Nix will pick up any cards that are made by the Dec. 9 due date and the community is invited out to distribute the cards on Dec. 13 at 2 p.m.
Once they get to the nursing home they go door to door and hand out cards.
The group then meets by the Christmas tree where they sing carols and enjoy snacks with the residents.
“So often these residents are lonely,” said Nix. “They just need love.”
Growing up Nix's mom brought her to nursing homes to help brighten peoples day and it stuck with her.
“Seeing the difference it makes is really a sweet thing,” she said.
The card making and distribution is open to everyone, all ages.
