Zero Stone Park Concert Series kicks off on Friday, June 10 this year with a new artist to the series, Bo DePeña. This bi-weekly event will begin at 7:30 p.m. and as always, is free to the public. The series this year will feature two new artists, two returning favorites, and two returning local talents. It promises to be a good concert season.
DePeña is from Laredo, TX - a city right on the border of Mexico with a very unique cultural landscape. His experiences growing up on the border gave him an interesting perspective on life and music, and after living in major artistic hubs like Austin and New York, he has become fully committed to developing his distinct American roots style. DePeña's performances merge elements of blues, folk, and country with a powerful voice and energetic presence.
After a 2015 tour promoting his debut record "There's No Way Out of Here," DePeña is preparing for another national run and the release of his second full-length album.
"Crash My Car" deals with topics ranging from unstable relationships to alcohol and drug abuse, religion, crime, and depression--all while keeping the album upbeat and energetic. DePeña's second record and subsequent tour promises to be broader than his 2015 endeavors, which included travel to 20 states and over 60 cities.
His first record is said to have "a really solid country sound. Universal, but very personal and intimate" by Last Week's Album. The Glass Show stated that TNWOH "Embodied all of the [classic sound of country]. [It] came together really nicely."
DePeña's records have been co-produced with Grammy-Award-winning engineer, Charlie Kramsky. Kramsky’s client list includes Americana acts such as Ray LaMontagne, Sarah Jarosz, and Neko Case, as well as pop acts like Paul McCartney and Tony Bennett.
The concert series is a family event, featuring great music and lots of fun for all ages. The series is sponsored by the Fort Stockton Public Library. For a complete list of dates and artists, contact the Chamber of Commerce at 432-336-2264.
