Baseball: Greenwood 7, Panthers 3

The Fort Stockton Panthers lost to Greenwood, 7-3, Saturday at the Big Spring Tournament.

In the first inning, Fort Stockton Panthers Varsity got their offense started. Donnie De La Cruz's sacrifice fly scored one run for the Panthers.

Jose Vasquez took the loss for Panthers. He lasted three innings, allowing seven hits and six runs while striking out three.

Diego Renteria went 2-for-3 at the plate to the Panthers Varsity in hits. The Panthers Varsity stole seven bases during the game as two players stole more than one. Derek Hernandez led the way with three.

On Friday, the Panthers defeated Abernathy 12-5. The team secured the victory thanks to 10 runs in the second inning. Edward Prieto, Iram Villarreal, Jason Childs, Derek Hernandez, Donnie De La Cruz, and Erik Bislar all contributed in the big inning with RBI’s.

In the second, Prieto singled on a 2-1 count, scoring one run. Villarreal singled on a 2-2 count, scoring one run, Childs singled on a 2-0 count scoring one run, Hernandez singled on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring one run, De La Cruz singled on a 1-0 count scoring two runs, Bislar singled on a 0-1 count scoring one run, Renteria singled on a 1-1 count scoring one run, and Preito singled on a 2-2 count, scoring two runs. Colby Garrison was credited with the victory. Garrison allowed five hits and five runs while striking out two and walking one. Renteria came in a closed out a great game.

The Fort Stockton Freshman baseball team fell to Del Rio 6-3 Friday night in Del Rio. Jesus Rodriguez and Izaiah Lujan each had an RBI. Starting pitcher Jose Luis Ramos struck out three in 3 1/3 innings.

On Thursday, the Panthers won twice in Big Spring.

Fort Stockton Panthers varsity baseball took a 7-2 victory over Midland High JV Thursday, March 7 at the Big Spring Tournament.

The Panthers (8-5) put up four runs in the third inning. Erik Bislar, Evian Castro, and Jason Childs drove the inning with base hits. Jamie Natividad got the win on the mound and allowed one hit and two runs over six innings, striking out six.

Earlier Thursday, the Panthers stole a game from Brownfield 6-5. Edward Prieto dominated on the mound and got the win.

“Brian Gonzales, Derek Hernandez, and Diego Renteria had successful bunts moving runners over and put runners in scoring position to give our team the best chance to win” said Coach Valadez.

Tournament play continues Friday, March 8 at 3 p.m. vs. Midland Greenwood.

The next game will be 7 p.m. Wednesday, March 13 in Alpine vs. Levelland.

• Junior Varsity: The Fort Stockton JV baseball team defeated Van Horn 8-3 in the first round of the Van Horn tournament. Dominic Aguilera, Dominic Aguilar and Jesus Rodriguez all had 2 RBIs. Starting pitcher Isaias Dominguez struck out six. Frankie Granado came out of the bullpen to strike out two. The team fell to Alpine 11-4 in their second game of the Van Horn Tournament. Jesus Rodriguez, Shawn Rodriguez, and A.J. Garcia all had an RBI.

• Freshman: The team fell to Del Rio 6-3 Friday night in Del Rio. Jesus Rodriguez and Izaiah Lujan each had an RBI. Starting pitcher Jose Luis Ramos struck out three in 3 1/3 innings.
