American G.I. forum awards scholarships

The Fort Stockton Chapter of the American G.I. Forum met on Monday, Sept. 10 and distributed the first installment of its 2018 scholarships.

The recipients were Ms. Gladys Villareal for daughter Zaria Lujan, attending UT San Marcos in the Medical Program; Freddie Martinez, Chapter Commander, the Honorable Joe Munoz, Ed Committee Chair, recipient Elizabeth Mata, attending Sul Ross University in the Criminal Justice Program; and recipient Alberto Barrera Jr. attending UT Permian Basin in the Chemical Engineering field.

The Fort Stockton Chapter of the American G.I. Forum was organized in 1949 to assist local Latino veterans (and their families) discharged after World War II and since its inception, has awarded in excess of $100,000 in scholarships to Fort Stockton High School graduates. Funds for the scholarships are generated from various fund-raising activities.
