For the last 11 years, Santa Acosta has been hosting the “Walk to End Alzheimers” in memory of her mother, Angelita Salinas.
For the first year of the walk, Acosta was able to wheel her mother around the park before she passed away in February 2009.
Now the walk in in her honor, where people can go the full length of the park at 2 miles or just a portion of it.
The walk is to encourage people to raise money for research to fight the disease.
The cost of the walk is free, but if people raise $100 they can get a t-shirt.
Last year they had about 75 people who walked, and they are hoping to up the numbers this year.
Everyone is welcome including kids and dogs.
After the walk, Acosta and her family are providing hamburgers and condiments.
People can sign up ahead of time at alz.org/walk or on the day of the walk.
