Texas Thanksgiving meal cheaper than national average

The average cost of a classic Thanksgiving meal in Texas is lower than the national average but still more expansive than a year ago, according to Farm Bureau’s 37th annual price survey.

The average cost of this year’s classic Thanksgiving feast for 10 in Texas is $58.51 or $5.85 per person.

The average cost of the classic meal in the U.S. is $64.05 or less than $6.50 per person. This is a $10.74 or a 20% increase from last year’s national average of $53.31.

County approves bids for hail storm roof repairs

The Oct. 10 hail storm did a number on several county buildings in Imperial and Coyanosa, and the Pecos County Commissioner’s Court on Nov. 14 approved bids for roof repairs at three buildings. The county received two bids for each building, but the bids were tabled at the Oct. 24 meeting in order to see if one of the bidders would offer a warranty on their work.

U.S. Marshals return Mexico murder suspect

ALPINE – Aggravated Murder suspect Manuel Adriano-Ruiz was returned Monday, November 14, 2022, to Mexican law enforcement authorities, via U.S. Border Patrol and U.S. Customs and Border Protection officials at the Presidio port-of-entry. The Texas Department of Public Safety provided additional personnel and equipment during the return. Adriano-Ruiz is wanted on an arrest warrant from Chihuahua, Mexico, charging him with Aggravated Murder. In July of 2021, Adriano-Ruiz allegedly shot and killed his wife, Sandra Veronica Escobar-Reyes, in the presence of their three children.

“A Christmas Story” to be performed at FSCT Dec. 8-11

Fort Stockton Community Theatre’s Paisano Players will be performing “A Christmas Story,” adapted by Phillip Grecian from the screenplay by Jean Shepherd, Leigh Brown, and Bob Clark. The show will be performed from Dec. 8-11 at The Nelson Street Theatre.

Thursday and Friday, Dec. 8-9, the performances will be at 7:00 p.m.; Saturday and Sunday, Dec.10-11, the performances will be at 2:00 p.m.

City adopts Home Rule Charter

Fort Stockton Mayor Chris Alexander did something Tuesday night no mayor of Fort Stockton has done.

He voted on an agenda item.

The Fort Stockton city council canvassed the votes in the Nov. 8 election – which included the adoption for or against making Fort Stockton a home-rule charter city – then adopted Resolution 22-117R which made Fort Stockton a home rule charter city.

Capital Highlights: Turnout drops in recent election

Voter turnout in the midterm elections again dropped statewide, with just over 45% of registered voters either casting ballots early or at the polls on Nov. 8. Republican candidates continued to hold a hammerlock on statewide positions, with incumbent Gov. Greg Abbott handily winning a third term over challenger Beto O’ Rourke.
