Sul Ross chapter of Kappa Delta Pi to initiate 20

Education students at Sul Ross State University will be initiated into the Zeta Delta Chapter of Kappa Delta Pi International Honor Society in a ceremony at the Gallego Center on Thursday, May 18, at 7 p.m. The 20 students include Jasmin Ballones (Eagle Pass), Darissa Cervantes (Del Rio), Fatima Diaz (Andrews), Michelle Evans (Del Rio), Beatriz Gomez-Gomez (Eagle Pass), Dawn Henry (Sabinal), Giselle Hernandez (Van Horn), Alexya Herrera (Eagle Pass), Elizabeth Lara (Eagle Pass), Richard Morris (Fort Stockton), Ivett Ramos (Presidio), Harlem Ramos (Fort Davis), Michelle Ruiz (Uvalde), Jose Salazar (Eagle Pass), Priscilla Sanchez (Del Rio), Luis Sandoval (El Paso), Ruby Sertuchi (Presidio), Charles Shewell (Huntsville), Victoria Ura (Eagle Pass) and Melissa Wesney (Alpine).

Streamlined application process for Cost Share Conservation programs now available

The Center for Land Stewardship and Stakeholder Engagement at Boaderlands Research Institute (BRI) at Sul Ross State University has streamlined its application process for cost share conservation programs. Cost share programs reimburse a percentage of the overall cost of qualified conservation practices to selected landowners.

City OKs payments for solar lighting

Improvements to Fort Stockton continue at a fast pace, and the Fort Stockton city council on April 24 ensured that those doing the work will get paid. The council approved $102,000 for L.T. Construction to finish up work on the Hodges Pavilion. The pavilion is being built adjacent to the Fort Stockton Civic Center and Panther Pictures and will be an outdoor venue for multiple events such as concerts.

FSISD says no to outdoor court

The idea of a covered outdoor basketball court at Fort Stockton Middle School is an intriguing one for some in the district. The item had been discussed at the March school board meeting, and board member Andy Rivera asked for the item to be put on the April 26 agenda for the board to consider putting out a request for proposals to construct the court. The court would be just like the one the city of Fort Stockton constructed at Gene Cummings Park, which has grown in popularity as the weather has warmed.
