Pecos County received some good news on the COVID-19 front, with three more Pecos County cases now listed as "recovered" by the state and out of quarantine.  In addition, two cases from El Paso County that tested positive in Pecos County, also have cleared quarantine.  Pecos County has 20 confirmed cases. Nine of those are now recovered. To date, 353 people have been tested in Pecos County, with 225 negative, 102 pending, 20 confirmed, six confirmed and assigned to another county, 11 active case, and nine recovered. more

At its May 5 meeting, the council had its first reading of the plan by the EDC to “Promote or develop or expand their business enterprise back to the level prior to the economic retraction caused by the COVID-19 National Disaster.” more

Pecos County has its 15th confirmed COVID-19 case, a  45-year-old male employee at the N5 Unit. He was tested May 3 at PCMH, and is self-quarantined at home with family. The county has nine active cases, all of which are tied to Texas Department of Criminal Justice N5 Unit in Fort Stockton. The cases are either offenders or employees, or their families. The county has six recovered cases, two of which were tied to the N5 Unit. The other four were tied to the county's first case.  more

  Gov. Greg Abbott will allow hair salons in Texas to reopen Friday and gyms on May 18, moving more quickly than expected to further restart the Texas economy during the coronavirus pandemic. The businesses will be required to follow certain rules, however, as the state continues to grapple with the novel coronavirus. For example, hair stylists will only be able to work with one customer at a time, while gyms can only reopen at 25% capacity, and their showers and locker rooms should remain closed for now. more
The Pioneer has launched a local business stimulus program for locally owned and operated businesses impacted by the COVID-19 crisis. Pecos County now has 14 confirmed cases of COVID-19 – nine that are still active – after three more positive test results were reported in the past 24 hours. According to Pecos County Judge Joe Shuster, a 53-year-old female was confirmed this morning as Case #14. She was tested at Mallik Medical Clinic on April 28 and has been quarantined at home. She is an employee at the Texas Department of Criminal Justice's N5 Unit in Fort Stockton. All nine of the county's active cases are tied to the unit. more
